The Nanuet Fire Engine Company was originally founded on December 18, 1860 with nine members. The department received its charter when the state legislature formally incorporated the "Nanuet Fire Engine Company" in 1862. Located in Rocklad County in the state of New York, the fire company today has more than 100 members and this year celebrates its 150th anniversary! In addition to planning for new fire apparatus, a new firehouse is also on the horizon. Specifically the portrait "“Chief Nannewitt” (some historians claim that he was not a Chief and only part of the Kakiat Indian Tribe).
